As our season for 2012 is quickly coming upon us, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and go over some of the new and exciting changes our board is making to improve you and your child’s overall experience with our great baseball league.
My name is Eric DeMinico and I have been elected as the league President for this year. I have been a member of the board for 4 years and have seen some great baseball and have met lifelong friends. I have had the distinct pleasure of being on the board with a lot of great people who have tirelessly worked at making Salem Youth Baseball a great league. I also enjoy seeing all of the kids grow and develop not only their baseball skills but seeing the friendships and camaraderie that they develop with their teammates. I am very excited about the new challenges that we face as our league continues to grow. I am confident that our new board is ready to continue to work tirelessly making your experience with SYB as enjoyable and rewarding as possible. We want to have your children excited to play and practice baseball all the time. We realize there are many choices and opportunities out there for your child to participate in and I will strive along with my board to make SYB a great league for 2012 and beyond.
One of the changes we are implementing this year is the restructuring of the divisions of the league as well as our new age requirements within each division. The board has recently voted to have the following 4 divisions, T-Ball, AA, AAA and Majors. The age requirements will be the following, T-Ball ages 5 and 6, AA ages 7 and 8, AAA ages 9 and 10 and majors ages 11 and 12. The board voted these changes in this year for several reasons. We have had too many grey areas regarding what division and what the qualification was for your child to be eligible to play in that division. The old structure created too many questions and raised concerns and we felt it necessary to make these changes. We feel that the new age groups will create more competition at each level and will allow the players to develop their skills more thoroughly. We will also now have a system in place that is very clear to all members as to where your child will be playing.
The Challenger division also has been a huge success having completed our inaugural season. I want to personally thank Tom Plante, who we recently voted as VP of Challenger division. He worked tirelessly last year on creating this great division. I would also like to thank Fred Russo for campaigning so hard and bringing this new league into SYB. We are also excited about having 2 divisions within Challenger this year. We will be having the minor and major division. Minors will be ages 4-12 and Majors will be ages 13-22. We are going to have a great year with this group!
We are very excited to be bringing back the blockhouse under the direction of the board. We have just voted in this year to control all operations of the blockhouse. We hope to give all families a great experience with the concessions. We realize there were some challenges over the last few years and we are reacting to those concerns. We will have great products and prices this year and 100% of the sales and profits will be used within the league.
We will also be having our 3rd annual dinner dance again this year. We are in the process of making this event bigger and better than ever. We invite and encourage you to attend as it has become the event of the year at SYB. We have great food, drinks and fun! We will again be having it at Harris’ Pelham Inn in Pelham, NH on Fri March 16, 2012. We hope to see you all there!
In closing let me personally say Thank You to the many volunteers within the league. Without the help of all of your efforts we would not be able to run this league. I also want to encourage any person who would like to join in any capacity within the league to please to feel welcomed! I look forward to a great season and seeing you all in the spring
Sincerely,
Eric DeMinico, President
